Mechanism of metal atmospheric corrosion:
Corrosion is a spontaneous and necessary process of metal that wants to resume its stable oxide state (original mineral state). Metal corrosion can be categorized as chemical corrosion and electrochemistry corrosion according to mechanism. Metal corrosion in atmosphere is a process of electrochemical transformation. Electrochemistry is when humidity in the air is high, it will concentrate a layer of water film on metal surface (electroleye aqueous film), then metal surface forms microcell. Meanwhile, because of depolarization action of oxygenic cathode, metal hydronium flow from anode to cathode, which cause metal corrosion.
Anti-corrosive mechanism of Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor (VCI)
At room temperature, VCI can continually and slowly volatilize corrosion inhibiting gas, which absorb on bare metal surface and forms molecule-thick of stable protective film. This protective film can effectively prevent metal from oxygen, humidity etc. VCI volatilizes continually that can maintain saturation in airtight space, so it can attain long-term, stable and excellent anti-corrosive effect.
