The term a "unit" refers to the quantity of desiccant that absorb 3 grams of water vapor at 20% or 6 grams of water vapor at 40% relative humidity level. A "unit" of Clay is typically 33 grams, and a "unit" of Molucular Sieve and Silica Gel is normally 28 grams.
Clay desiccants from Nicepak are chemically inert, dehydrating agents that prevent corrosion and mildew by ADSORBING moisture from the air of an enclosed space. In other words, clay desiccants are used to dehumidify the inside of your package. Nicepak's clay desiccant offerings all meet Department of Defense military spec D-3464E for static dehumidification, just one way we insure the performance of our product.
Many of our clay desiccants consist of Montmorillonite, a naturally occurring non-hazardous mineral made up of magnesium aluminum silicate. Ounce for ounce, clay is one of the most cost efficient ways to reduce moisture damage during shipping and transport of a product. Clay is arguably the most "green" or environmentally safe of all the typically used desiccants. This type desiccant can also regenerate for repeated use at very low temperatures without noticeable deterioration.
Because of activated clay's unique properties, it can be used with a variety of goods; everything from steel and metal components to military applications, electrical components, machinery, home storage and to keep guns and ammunition in tip top shape.
For pharmaceutical and lab applications, clay works great preserving diagnostic products.
